    Based on questions received, we have added further clarification in the Frequently Asked Questions for Michigan Achievement Scholarship eligibility:

    Does the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) have to be completed and verified if required? What if a student possesses a Certificate of Completion?

    Answer:

    To be eligible for Michigan Achievement Scholarship, the FAFSA must be completed and verified if required. Subsequent Institutional Student Information Records (ISIR) will be loaded into MiSSG. Students possessing a Certificate of Completion must have a submitted FAFSA with a calculated Expected Family Contribution and all other verification excluding high school completion must be complete and verified.

  • FY24 Budget Update

    On Thursday July 20, 2023, Governor Whitmer signed the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) budget (Public Act No. 103 of 2023) which funds Student Scholarships, Grants and Outreach (SSGO) programs for Academic Year 2023-24. All programs received appropriations, which allow them to remain funded. Below you will find details on Academic Year 2023-24 State financial aid program updates.

    Children of Veterans Tuition Grant (CVTG)

    • No program changes. 
    • $2,800 annual maximum award. 

    Fostering Futures Scholarship (FFS)

    • No program changes.
    • $3,000 annual maximum award. 

    Michigan Competitive Scholarship (MCS)

    • Appropriation reduced by $3,000,000.
    • 2023 (and greater) high school graduates will no longer be eligible for MCS. 
      • "It is the intent of the legislature that 1964 PA 208, MCL 390.971 to 390.981, will be amended to end competitive scholarship eligibility of students enrolling in college for the first time after the fiscal year ending on September 30, 2023, as those students may be eligible for the Michigan achievement scholarship."
    • Annual maximum award $1,500.

    MI Future Educator Fellowship (MI Fellowship)

    • Be full-time during the academic year and maintain continuous enrollment, as determined by the student’s Educator Preparation Program.
    • Be considered at least a junior-level student, as determined by the institution.
    • Students must pledge to work as a certified teacher in a public school or a qualifying public preschool program in this state.
    • $10,000 annual maximum award.

    MI Future Educator Stipend (MI Stipend)

    • If the individual is employed by their district as a teacher of record, they are not eligible for MI Stipend.
    • $9,600 stipend. 

    MI GEAR UP 

    • $2,000 annual maximum award.

    Michigan Achievement Scholarship

    • Last-dollar re-defined:
      • “Last-dollar payment amount” means an amount equal to tuition, mandatory fees, and contact hours for each student’s actual program of study, minus all gift aid received by the student.”
    • Minimum payment re-defined:
      • “Minimum payment” means a payment eligible for any cost within the student’s individual cost of attendance. The minimum payment must be awarded as a separate payment not included in the student’s need-based financial aid. The minimum payment must not be reduced.”
    • "Students enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program described in section 121 of the community college act of 1996, 1966 PA 331, MCL 389.121 may be eligible for 5 academic years and a minimum and last dollar payment equal to the amount awarded at an eligible public university."
    • Up to $2,000 if attending a career training program in Michigan, per year, up to two years.
    • Up to $2,750 if attending a Michigan community college, per year, up to three years.
    • Up to $4,000 if attending a Michigan private college or university, per year, up to five years.
    • Up to $5,500 if attending a Michigan public university, per year, up to five years.

    Michigan Tuition Grant (MTG)

    • $3,000 annual maximum award.
    • $5 million annual maximum for private or independent degree-granting, non-profit institutions. 

    Police Officer's and Fire Fighter's Survivor Tuition Grant (STG)

    • No program changes. 
    • Award amount varies. 

    Tuition Incentive Program (TIP)

    • No program changes.
    • TIP Phase I Rate at private or independent degree-granting institutions is $126 per credit hour.
