May 5, 2026 Referendum: Two School-Related Questions
2026 Referendum

On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, voters will see two school-related questions on the ballot for Bridgman Public Schools:

  1.  Non-Homestead Operating Millage Renewal
  2.  Bond Proposal for Buildings & Infrastructure Improvements.

Each question serves a different purpose and is funded differently under Michigan law.

Question #1: Non-Homestead Operating Millage Renewal

This proposal would renew the district’s existing non-homestead operating millage, which supports day-to-day school operations such as utilities, educational programs, and staffing.

  • This is a renewal — not a new tax.
  • It applies only to non-homestead property (commercial property, second homes, and other non-primary residences).
  • Primary residences are not affected.

Revenue from this renewal provides approximately $11 million annually, representing about 75% of the district’s operating budget.

Question #2: Bond Proposal – Buildings & Infrastructure

This proposal would authorize up to $21,450,000 in bonds to address facility and learning environment improvements across the district.

Projects include:

  • HVAC upgrades
  • Roof replacements
  • Exterior building repairs
  • Safety and security improvements
  • Parking lot improvements

The bond represents a zero-mill net increase, meaning there would be NO increase in school property taxes compared to the prior year’s levy related to this referendum.
