We have two school improvement building goals that we are
focusing on as we do our daily work:
Goal #1: Writing across the curriculum
Goal #2: Graphing
You can help your child with these goals by writing at home, and helping your child read any graphs that you come across in your daily routine.
Specials Schedule:
Monday: Computers, Library and Reading Buddies
Tuesday: Music & Gym
Wednesday: Art & Tech Time
Thursday: Music & Gym
Friday: French & Gym
Please make sure your child brings socks on gym day if they are wearing sandals :)
We have a snack time every morning to hold us over until lunch time. Please send a HEALTHY snack, and no drink. We have a drinking fountain in our classroom.
Remember to check your child's backpack each night for notes and homework, and return the homework folder the next day.
Friday folders will be sent home on Friday, and are to be returned to the school on Monday.
Curriculum For The Month of October:
Reading: Book 1 "Picture Perfect ". Textbooks will be sent home on Friday to practice the story of the week. Please return on Monday. The "House" paper in the baggie on Friday needs to be signed and returned, showing your child read our story of the week to you. Please practice reading with your child every night. We will be taking our first end of the book reading assessment at the end of the month! :) Keep reviewing the high frequency words that were sent home. We use these in our writing daily! :)
BOOK IT begins in October. Don't forget to record how long your child reads each night in their monthly calendar for Book It. At the end of the month, they can earn a free pizza from Pizza Hut!
Math: We are working in Journal 1. Topics this month include compliments of "10", analog clocks, time to the hour, lengths, straightedges, dominoes, pennies, nickels, counting coins, addition and subtraction number models and number stories. Homelinks are sent home 3 - 4 times per week, to be completed by the students and returned the next morning.
Science: We will be finishing our unit on plants and animals. Additional themes are: fire safety, railroad safety, weather, states of matter.
Social Studies: Our Weekly Reader will cover the topics of "The Election ", "Fire Safety", "Pumpkins", and "Spiders". Additional themes are: Christopher Columbus and Families.
Spelling: Our lessons correspond to our reading story of the week. We won't begin spelling tests for a few weeks. When we do, spelling words for the week will be sent home on Mondays. Please practice these words each night with your child. The final test will be on Friday.
Writing: We continue practicing simple sentences and reviewing basic sentence structure and mechanics. Our target skills this month include strong verbs, descriptive words, writing with details, spelling high frequency words correctly, and using complete sentences.
