Congratulations Arts & Science Expo Winners!
Congratulations to the Lakeland Fine Arts All Conference Students!
The following visual arts students will be involved in The Lakeland Fine Arts Festival on April 10th. This is an extreme honor for those visual arts, band, choir and drama students chosen to be All Conference in the fine arts.
Lexi Abram, Lisa Damon, Kelsey Jakeway, Stephanie Kaltz, Ali Murphy, Brittany Nicely, Heather Svoboda, Desiree Wiggs, Karly Gitersonke, and Emily Boyd.
The Fine Arts Festival will be held at Buchanan High School. The public is invited to attend the visual arts show at 6:30 and then the performing arts show at 7:00. Admission is free and a joy to behold!
Scholastic Art Awards Winners are IN!
Twenty pieces of student's art work were recently entered into the Northwest Indiana and Southwestern Michigan Regional Scholastic Juried Art Exhibit. This is a major high school art exhibit. The results of the winners have just been announced!
Brittany Nicely received a "Gold Key" for a portrait of her brother called
"The Patriot".
Brittany also received a "Silver Key" for a self portrait entitled
"Exhausted After Finals".
Ashley Hamby received a "Silver Key" for a Mandala entitled
"Dancing".
Jenny Totzke received an "Honorable Mention" for a paper cutting entitled
"I'm On The Cutting Edge".
Scott Herrman received an "Honorable Mention" for a paper cutting entitled
"The Itsy Bitsy Spider".
Holland Roorda received an "Honorable Mention" for a print entitled
"My African Friend".
BHS Artwork on Permanent Display at Public Library

Ten BHS Art 4 students have created "Torn Paper Portraits" of illustrators and authors that are on permanent display at the Bridgman Public Library in the section of the library called the "Teen Zone". Those students are Lisa Damon, Heather Svoboda, Kelsey Jakeway, Lindsey Clements, Tara Malevitis, Emily Boyd, Brittany Nicely, Tricia Warren, Karly Gitersonke, and Caitlin Hampton. The "Teen Zone" sign was also created by two Art 4 students, Derek Peterson and Zak Bennett from pieces of broken mirror and wood. Stop by and see these amazing pieces of artwork. You are sure to be impressed!
Visual Arts
Welcome
to the world of high school art! It's a pleasure to work
with your students as they develop and nurture their own
artistic skills and explore various mediums and ideas that
have influenced the world of art. The Bridgman High School
Visual Arts Program is in compliance with the Michigan Merit
Visual Arts Curriculum and committed to excellence. Our students
are highly competitive and involved in a number of juried
visual arts shows throughout the year as well as three seasonal
school shows. The dates of those seasonal visual, performing
and applied art show are:
- "Fall Fest" Wednesday, October 24th
- "Winter Works" Wednesday, December 12th
- "Spring Into The Arts" Thursday, May
8th.
All visual and applied arts shows begin at 6:00 in the BHS Commons and all performing arts shows begin at 7:00 in the Performing Arts Center at Bridgman High School.
To keep our students and parents better informed, you are invited to click on the links below for lesson plan information and project/assignment due dates. Sketchbooks are required of all Art 2, Art 3, and Art 4 students.

Pam Carlson, Visual Arts Teacher
Mrs. Carlson, with twenty-five years of teaching experience, has taught students kindergarten through 12th grade. She has art and education degrees from North Park University in Chicago, and a Masters of Art in Teaching from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Carlson has also studied at The Minneapolis School of Art and Design and Andrews University. Mrs. Carlson is the Visual, Performing and Applied Arts Instructional Council Chairperson for Bridgman Public Schools.
