Some general info about School Counseling at Bridgman Elementary
As Bridgman Elementary School Counselor, I really want to:
TEAM WITH YOU, YOUR CHILD AND YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER TO HELP YOUR CHILD HAVE A FANTASTIC SCHOOL YEAR!!
The following services are available through my office to help make this happen:
1) Individual counseling services. "Play" is the languae of children. My counseling services utilize a "play" therapy philosophy.
2) Small groups on areas such as school transition, social skills, anger management, coping with family changes, etc. (Groups currently being offered are outlined below).
3) Teamwork with parents, teachers and children to develop education, behavior and/or personal growth plans.
4) Referral to mental health and other community agencies.
5) Resources on a variety of topics--ADHD, Tourettes' Syndrome, child behavior, discipline, helping children cope with grief, children and homework, etc.
Children participate in counseling services only with input and permission from parents. I do have many informal lunchtime gathersings with students that focus on relationship building and are held without parent permission.
Many parents wonder about my training and credentials. I have a Master's Degree in Education in School Counseling from Georgia State University and Michigan Teaching and School Counseling Certification. I have worked for 8 years as a classroom teacher, 15 years as a school counselor, and 2 years as a therapist in a family counseling center. I have received training in family therapy and taken courses in a variety of other counselor related issues. I am a member of the American Association of Play Therapists. I am currently a student at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR THINGS TO DISCUSS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME BY PHONE, EMAIL, OR STOPPING BY!! IF I AM NOT WORKING WHEN YOU CALL, I'LL GET BACK TO YOU DURING THE NEXT WORKING DAY. YOU MAY ALSO "CATCH" ME IN THE HALLWAY AT SCHOOL.
