Bridgman Elementary School
"Together, challenging our children to succeed."
Mrs. Schlipp's Second Grade
Room # 149
Our Class:
We have 9 girls and 12 boys in our classroom this year. Twenty-one students is a wonderful class size for second grade. This is my 18th year at B.E.S. and I am absolutely thrilled to have a chance to teach second grade again. It also happens that two of of the students in our classroom this year have older siblings who were also students of mine in previous years. I really enjoy seeing those familiar faces and it is great fun to get to know new friends, too.
Sharing:
We try to have a share time everyday but sometimes we can't fit it in. We have 5 groups in the room named after the days of the week. On Monday it is Monday's day to share and so on throughout the week. I encourage sharing of one item and it should be of an educational nature. Please discourage any toys from coming to school unless it is something that your child collects. A good example of a share item might be a foreign coin, and unusual fruit, a favorite book, an item from a collection, or an award earned. Children should practice what it is that they are going to say about their share item with you as their audience.
Specials:
Monday Art
Tuesday Music & Gym
Wednesday Music & Gym
Thursday French & Gym
Friday Computer Lab & Library
Please note: Specials in second grade are near the end of the day.
Homework Folders:
Your child will be receiving a special folder that he or she will be expected to bring home each night and bring back to school each morning. In this folder will be"Keep At Home" papers that need to be looked at and discussed but need to remain at home. Any daily notes to you that require a signature and homework that needs to be done will be on the "Return To School" side. Children should have a designated place where they put these everyday so that they learn to #1: show them to you nightly, and # 2: remember to return them in the morning each and every day. Our ultimate goal is to teach them responsibility and organization. These folders are also the perfect carrier for notes from you to school and lunch money coming to school. In the past my students have been very responsible with these. Let’s keep up the good work.
Friday Folders:
In Mrs. Schlipp’s classroom we do not use Fri. folders because we use Homework folders. This folder is expected to last one entire year. I stress taking care of it!
A GOOD YEAR:
We are having a very good year in room #149. Spelling words will come home on Friday and tests will be on the following Thursday. I will inform students when there is a change in that routine. I will try very hard to keep you posted on life in second grade. Let’s continue to have a GREAT year!!!!!
