1. Draw a long, swerving dramatic line that considers your paper from end to end, side to side. Let your line wander and cross itself. Do not “scribble”. Create spaces to design.
2. Design each enclosed shape. Consider the elements and principles of art. It is fine to leave one or two spaces empty. It is fine to color some in solid. Alternate your colors. Create unity with your colors by limiting the palette you choose.
3. Be ready to explain how your picture exemplifies some of the elements and principles of art. For example, how does your picture show balance and unity? Where have you tried to create different textures or values?
