Mythical Creatures is brought to us by a grant through the Bridgman Public Library and the

Virginia and Harvey Kimmel Arts Education Fund of the Philadelphia Foundation

The project integrates Language Arts writing and reading goals of storytelling with visual art goals of making 3-dimensional sculptures, using the imagination, and relating visual images from the past to a student's own artwork.

Kanji

Kanji is 30,000 year old dragon and he is very lonely.  Since he is so lonely, he is always mad and greedy.

No one ever goes near Kanji because they are afraid of him.  They have a fear that Kanji would eat them.  Kanji’s diet included only: people, any animal, and fire.         It was easy to catch his prey because he was faster than a rocket.

He is always on fire and he is so mad that the whites of his eyes are actually burning yellow. Kanji is also very fast and strong.  When he gets near ice or Antarctica he loses all of his strength. His favorite thing to do is make fire sculptures, but he destroys them before anyone can see them.

Then one day of his long, lonely life a small child wandered into the forest where Kanji was. Kanji started to sneak up on the child. Then the child pulled out an instrument and played a great melody and it released all the stress in Kanji.

The villagers no longer fear Kanji. Now, he offers hat to the village with his burning flames.  He lives in the village with the people and everyone likes to come visit him. He also has the child who played the music come over. Now both of them are best friend and the dragon was never mad or lonely ever again.

Dreamer the Pegasus

by Camille

Dreamer the Pegasus lives in Antarctica. Dreamer’s mom, dad, and baby sister live with her. Dreamer is calm but can be fierce, very brave, and fast and will fly for 5 hours tops. But Dreamer is the friendliest Pegasus in the world. Dreamer was a horse at first but one day Dreamer was cantering through the snow and saw a weird species. It had wings but it looked a lot like her so she galloped up to the thing and started talking to him. All of the sudden his eyes closed and his wings fell to the ground: poof! The snow clouded around her. Dreamer started coughing. This was definitely not snow! She looked down. She was in the air! And that’s how Dreamer became a Pegasus.

                                 Griffindore

                           By Rachel K.

My griffin lives in a valley with short trees and bushes and colorful flowers.   I live with my griffin in a cave on the side of the rocky cliff.

Griffindore loves to fly, his home is the sky.  I get to go up and hover above the valley sometimes on his back.  Griffindore is happy and cheerful all the time.  His mother and father live in a valley not far from ours.  They are quite poor, but Griffindore cheered them up.  Life was great for Griffindore.

Griffindore’s outer wing is midnight blue and the inside orange, like a sunset over a lake.  His feathers on his body are orange like daffodils and his body, its dark blue like a sea at midnight. His head is like his body and tail.  My griffin has a blood red beak, (he was born that way) His eyes are yellow like the sun and has great eyesight.

Blood Unicorn

 By Robert B

There is a unicorn but it is not a normal.  It is a Blood Unicorn. It got its name from eating people and blood dripping from its mouth.  There is only one in the world. It can’t fly but it can eat people. It stabs you with its horn then it chews your foot off, then you die. The only way it can die is if you pull its horn off. Then it will die a painful death.
