1. The book you choose must be related to social studies and appropriate for your
reading level. It can be from any of the following categories (unless it is a specifically assigned book)
a. historical fiction
b. historical non-fiction
c. biography
d. social issues (past or present)
2. Mechanics will count as part of your grade:
a. the book report MUST be typed and double spaced
b. your report should be about 500 words in length
c. spelling, grammar, structure, etc. all counts
3. Format:
a. include the book's title and author
b. half of your book report should be a summary of the book itself
c. half of your book report should be a reaction paper to the book,
including the following information:
* how the book relates to social studies
* what you learned from reading the book
* some interesting facts or sections of the book, and why
* how some Core Democratic Values may apply to the story line
* what you liked or did not like about the book
* if you would recommend this book or not, and why
* other comments or observations that you would like to make
Tips to a better grade:
* use a computer and use spell check
* have another person proofread your paper
* get the book read as soon as possible in the marking period
* get your report written as soon as you have finished the book
* read a book that interests you
* if you can't find enough in your book to write a report about, get another book
