How to Study

The secret to a good grade in any class is repeating your exposure to the information at least 5 to 6 times - using different methods each time, such as:

- the class discussion itself

- review of the class notes - the sooner the better

- type up the notes on computer

- study the notes in sections, work for memorization while creating potential quiz/test questions of your own (or, in other words, what would you ask?)

- have a friend hold your notes while asking you questions about what's in there - like starting a statement and having you fill in the blanks; asking you to list items under main headings; making up questions as you go along; etc.

- go over your notes right before the class - try to mentally repeat them from memory, glancing at them for review if you get stuck

- read the textbook

- review the textbook

- for exams, use your notes/text to define every term in the review sheet and have your person in #5 quiz you on these

- look up the map information if the test will involve geographic questions

-if you know what an essay topic is:  write complete answers to the essay questions before you come to class

-teach the material to somebody else:  a parent, a sister or brother, a friend, your cat or dog, etc.
