A California native, Carrie VanDenburgh grew up in a musical family, studying piano and violin from an early age. Although she loved to sing and grew up singing in choirs, she never thought it was something she would pursue until her high school choir teacher gave her a solo. Thrilled with the exhilaration of performing, Carrie decided to take lessons and began studying with Mrs. Patty Gee at the University of Redlands in 1995. Following her graduation from high school, Carrie studied with Dr. Genevieve Kibble at Pacific Union College for two years before transferring to Andrews University to study under the tutelage of Mr. Stephen Zork. Carrie completed her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance in 2000 and obtained her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance in 2002, both from Andrews University.
During her studies at Andrews University, she received several vocal performance scholarships. Additionally, Carrie also has a great interest in music theory and served as a Graduate Assistant in Music Theory and tutor. She also had the privilege of being part of Master Classes with Lustsina Kazatchenko from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory, Diane Kesling from the Metropolitan Opera, and Moises Parker from the Strassbourg Opera.
In the past few years, she has been the soloist for Bach’s Magnificat, John Rutter’s Gloria, Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Laudate Dominum, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Ramirez’s Misa Criolla and played a role in the musical Godspell. Mrs. VanDenburgh was also a winner in the Young Artist Competition, 2000 and 2001.
Currently, Carrie VanDenburgh is the choir teacher at Bridgman High School and the Director of Music at Harbert Community Church. She also currently teaches aural comprehension and voice lessons as an adjunct instructor at Lake Michigan College. Mrs. VanDenburgh also teaches private voice lessons out of her home.
