Drama

Course Description

This course offers an introduction to the plays, the theater, and the production of drama from the time of Greek theater to modern theater.  Each student will expose him/herself to many different aspects of the theater through the reading of numerous dramas as well as through observation, performance, and exposure.

 

Class Objective

The student will become acquainted with dramatic writing structure, characterization and acting techniques through the reading of many different forms of drama.  The student will learn the components of drama (history of the theater, stage design, etc.) as well as be introduced to playwrights.  The student will perform pantomimes, improvisations, acting scenes and full length play roles.  The student will receive instruction in movement, voice, facial expressions, relaxation techniques, dialects, and stage blocking.  The student will be introduced to makeup, stage management, lighting, sound and directing.

 

Textbook and Supplies

There are numerous scripts and various textbooks required in this class; therefore when a book is used for a particular play or activity, one will be provided to you and signed out merely for the period of time we use them, rather than the entire semester.

 

There will be various handouts throughout the semester, so you will need a folder in which to store them.  You will also need a pen or pencil, and a notebook for warm ups, vocabulary terms, and note taking…please bring these items with you to class EVERY DAY!

Assessment

The student will be graded according to the policy in Mrs. Countess’ Owner’s Manual (50%-25%-25%) as well as through self evaluation.
