Principal’s Message
Only one month remains in this school year, but, as always, it stands to be a very busy one. The coming weeks will be a whirlwind of activity as a number of end-of-year events unfold, and another year at F.C. Reed comes to a close. The eighth graders are particularly active as they finish end of year projects, take a trip to Weko Beach, practice for their Honors Night and emotionally prepare to make the break from middle school. The students in other grades are preparing to make their own transitions, yet knowing that they will still be under the wing of RMS for the coming year. I will be looking forward to seeing all of you at the events in the weeks ahead.
With the warmer weather now upon us, it becomes necessary to include a few reminders related to dress code. Please be aware of your child’s attire and its appropriateness for school. Regardless of style trends in advertisements directed at children, short shorts, short skirts, tank tops, and tube-tops are examples of inappropriate attire that are distractions to students in the school setting. In general, think of the school environment as you would a work environment. I appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
I want to say thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who make F.C. Reed the superb school it is. These folks come regularly when, I’m sure, there are other things they could be doing. I applaud their generous gifts of time. Thank you for what you have given to our students and staff.
With that, I will leave you with heartfelt thanks for all that you do and for entrusting us with your children. This has been an exciting year and with the support of parents, F.C. Reed will continue in its strong tradition as a community of learners.
Have a wonderful summer!

ROCKET LAUNCH!
Each year 7th grade students launch rockets as part of their math class. Thank you to Red Arrow Hobby Shop and Mr. Dave McVeigh for bringing in his rockets on launch day.
The 7th grade built their rockets between May 25 and 28, then launched them on June 1, 2010.
Rocket Launch
by: Britt
The rocket launch was a great experience for me. It was like nothing I've ever seen. I hope to experience it again. It was so amazing to see the rockets shoot high into the air. It was like they touched the sun. It was hot out, but it was worth every minute of my time. I love hearing the rockets go boom! It was loud but really fun. I loved seeing the big rockets the rocket guys brought. They went zoom! Then exploded with a boom! I hope the kids in the future like the rocket launch like I did.
7th Gr. Rockets
by Brianna
This week the 7th grade made rockets. Then when we all got done building them we got to go outside and launch our rockets. Some of the rockets did really good and some didn't work . The good rockets went straight, the ones that had a broken wing or the engine wouldn't work right, they went in a spiral or cockscrew type thing.
Then the guys from the hobby shop came and launched the big rockets. One of the rockets went on the roof of the school. Also, since one of the students loved the rockets, she got to keep the blue rocket!

On Monday, June 7 the 7th grade went on a field trip to Washington Park Zoo in Michigan City, Indiana.

FAST PLANTS
Thanks to a grant from the Bridgman Foundation Ms. Rynkiewicz's 7th gr. science class was able to buy additional laboratory equipment for the classroom. One of the labs invlolved Wisconsin Fast Plants... Here is what one student had to say about the lab:
Fast Plants
by Allison
I had such a fun time growing plants in science. Some of the best things about growing them were the pretty flowers and coming back after the weekend and seeing how much bigger they grew. It was also fun experimenting with other plants. My group put shampoo and food coloring in ours, it didn't grow at all! Although, most of my classes experiementing plants didn't grow, it was interesting to see what did and didn't grow. Overall, this lab was a lot of fun and a great experience.

MICHIGAN BLOOD CENTER VISITS THE 7TH GRADE

MI Blood
by: Nick
Have you ever had your blood drawn? I did. This year MI Blood Center came into our classroom. I was a little leery at first because I don't like finger pokes. But in the end, I got it done. I was glad I did. Now I know that I am A-. A- makes up only 6, of the United States. I learned a lot about blood too. They told me how much percent of each blood there is in our country. Thank you MI Blood Center.

If you want a $25 Speedway gas card, you pay $25 and you get a $25 card.
The school receives a different percentage off each retailers card. That's how we earn money.
BENEFITS
When you order SCRIP through the school we keep track of how much your purchases have earned and we split the profits with you 60/40.
We use our percent to help fund assemblies, buy classroom supplies, help pay for video conferences, offset the cost of field trips, etc.
You can use your profit anyway you like. At the end of each quarter issue you a check and you can apply this towards lunch money, field trip costs, class trips, sports, etc.
