2007-2008 Scholarships

2008 Prudential Spirit of Community Award

  • Scholarship Details: The award recognizes students who have demonstrated exemplary community service and gives them the opportunity to receive scholarships from $1000 to $5000.
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • A student who is in grades 5-12 as of October 31st.
    • A student who has engaged in a volunteer activity that occurred at least in part after September 1, 2006.
    • A student who completes an online application and submits it to a school principal or the head of an officially designated local organization by October 31, 2007

Coca-Cola Scholars

    • Accepted for enrollment in a two or four year Michigan college, university or trade school.
    • Planning to enroll in a full-time, undergraduate course of study in a broadcast-related field.

College of Education Alumni Assoc. of Michigan State University Scholarship

  • Scholarship Details: $1000 scholarships will be awarded to students who are highly motivated and are seriously considering the field of education.

    • Intends to pursue a career in K-12 education.

Michigan Society of Professional Engineers

  • Scholarship Details: 36 scholarships valued at up to $3000 annually will be awarded to high school seniors interested in pursuing an engineering degree at an Accreditation Board of Engineering Technology accredited Michigan College or University.
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Must be a US citizen.
    • Must be a Michigan resident.
    • Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
    • Must have a minimum ACT score of 26.

2008 Sam Walton Community Scholarship

  • Scholarship Details: The community scholarship is a non-renewable $1,000 award for the first year of undergraduate at an approved accredited college or university.

    • May not be a Wal-Mart or Sam's Club associate, or the child or legal dependent of a Wal-Mart or Sam's Club associate.

ESA Foundation Scholarship

Michigan Education Association Scholarship

  • Scholarship Details: The number and amount of scholarships for 2008 has not been determined.
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Graduate of a Michigan public high school.
    • Will attend a Michigan public community/junior college, a four-year degree-granting institution, or a vocational training institution that grants a degree, certification or license.  The following private institutions are also eligible: Adrian College, Albion College, Baker College-Flint/Owosso, Davenport University-Eastern Region Campus, University of Detroit-Mercy, Finlandia University, and Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University.

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation Scholarship

  • Scholarship Details: 400 students who have demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit will be awarded $1000 scholarships.

    • Entering freshman year of a two or four year college in 2008.
    • Started his or her own business or participated in organizations such as DECA, Future Buiness Leaders of America (FBLA), Junior Achievement and The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, among other; or through other initiatives.

  • Scholarship Details: Scholarships worth up to $5000 could awarded to students who want receive health care degrees in college.

    • High school graduates with a minimum 2.75 G.P.A.
    • Preference given to students enrolled in: SMC, LMC, or Andrews University.

American Legion Auxiliary Scholarships

  • Scholarship Details: A number of American Legion scholarships are available, and each scholarship is a different amount.  If you fit the eligibility criteria listed below, please come to the guidance office to look at the scholarships.
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Candidates shall be daughers, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, sons, grandsons, great-grandsons, or step of the afore mentioned, wives or widows of honourably discharged or deceased men or women veterans.

United Federal Credit Union Scholarship

  • Scholarship Details: Three scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who demonstrate community service and academic achievement.  One scholarship will be granted in the amount of $3000 and two scholarships will be granted in the amount of $1000 each.

    • Be an active member of United Federal Credit Union.

Brian Swiger Memorial Scholarship

  • Scholarship Details: One $1000 scholarship will awarded.  Students with experience in theater, whether school or community based, are encouraged to apply.  Scholarship money may be used for any field of study.

    • Have a 2.5 accumulated G.P.A.
    • Theater experience preferred.

Michigan State Troopers Assistance Fund

  • Scholarship Details: $1000 scholarships will be awarded.  The scholarships are awarded to students who are actively involved in extra curricular activities, community service, and jobs that make them productive members of their communities.

    • Must have a current grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
    • Completed copy of FAFSA form.
    • Completed application and an essay that outlines accomplishments and community involvement that demonstrates leadership and has a positive impact.

  • Scholarship Details: A $1000 scholarship awarded annually to a high school senior residing in the Galien School District, who is beginning a career path for a health-related profession in an effort to help provide health professionals in the Galien area.

    • Graduate of any high school in southwest lower Michigan who is currently a Galien resident.

2007-2008 Michigan American Legion High School Scholarships

  • Scholarship Details: The organization offers many scholarships that vary in value from $500 to $20000 such as Oratorical Scholarship, Boys State Program, Baseball Program, Eagle Scout of the Year Program, Wilson Scholarship, Brewer Scholarship, Youth Career Law Enforcement Program.  Please view scholarships at www.michiganlegion.org.

Calvin College Scholarships

  • For maximum consideration for all scholarships available at Calvin College, applicants should be admitted to Calvin by February 1, 2008.

Central Michigan University Centralis Scholarship Competition

  • To compete for the Centralis Scholarships, students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and attend the Centralis Scholarship Competition on October 13th or November 10th.

Eastern Michigan University Presidential Scholarship Competition

  • To apply for the scholarship, the university application and the scholarship application must be completed by November 21, 2007.
  • To compete in the scholarship program, students must attend the scholarship competition on either Saturday, December 1, 2007 or Saturday, December 8, 2007.

Western Michigan University Medallion Scholarship Program

  • To be eligible for the scholarship, the university application must be completed and received by December 1, 2007.
  • To compete in the scholarship program, students must attend the scholarship competition on January 26, 2008.
  • Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.70 or higher and an ACT composite score of 26 or higher.
