BRIDGMAN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT Bridgman, Michigan Minutes of Regular Meeting December 17, 2007
Call to Order: The Regular Meeting of the Bridgman Public School District Board of Education was held on Monday, December 17, 2007 in the Media Center of Bridgman High School, 9964 Gast Road, Bridgman, MI 49106. The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Strebeck at 7:03 p.m.
Members Present: Judy Kelly, Lisa Kiewel, Scott MacMartin, Alfred Ottusch, Pat Strebeck
Members Absent: Dick Fodor, Eric Ramso
Additions to Agenda: None
Superintendent’s Comments:
Kevin Ivers, Superintendent, reported the following: (1) ControlNet has been on-site at each building to balance the temperature and energy control systems and are nearing completion of the project; (2) The first meeting of the Design Team for the Bridgman Foundation for Educational Excellence was held December 13, 2007; (3) A broken pool water pipe has been repaired and a plan for equipment failures, emergencies and maintenance will be developed; and (4) The new BridgmanSchools.com web site is now running and recommendations from staff and community input will be shared with the web site programmer.
Principals’ Comments: There was no Bridgman Elementary School report.
Lori Graves, RMS Principal, extended an invitation to the last RMS home boy’s basketball game and family night at Roma’s Restaurant on December 19.
Jim Hutfilz, BHS Principal, reported that Sonny Gast was named the local recipient of the Principal’s Leadership Award and the BHS volleyball team was designated as an Academic All-State team by the Michigan High School Athletic Association. A Christmas concert will take place on December 21 at BHS at 2:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
Student Senate Comments: Sonny Gast, Student Senate President, gave a presentation on BHS activities.
Student/Staff The following students were presented certificates of achievement: Anna Roeder & Chelsea Haney, State Recognition: Honors Choir and Tim Foster, BHS December Student of the Month.

Board Communications: None
Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Member Kiewel, supported by Member MacMartin, to approve the November 19, 2007 Special Meeting, November 26, 2007 Regular & Closed Meetings, and December 10, 2007 Work Study Meeting minutes. Motion carried 5-0.
Financial Reports: Scott MacMartin presented the October Treasurer’s Report, which was accepted as presented, pending audit.
He also reported that a transportation committee comprised of himself, Ron Bartz and Craig Harley has been formed and a first meeting was held on December 17, 2007.
Action Items:
It was moved by Member Kiewel, supported by Member MacMartin, to approve an Annual Summer Tax Resolution. Motion carried 5-0.
It was moved by Member Kiewel, supported by Member Kelly, to approve Adam Kuipers as a sub custodian @ $10.32/hour, as needed. Motion carried 5-0.
It was moved by Member Kiewel, supported by Member MacMartin, to approve Brianna Schmitz as a senior lifeguard @ $7.15/hour, as needed. Motion carried 5-0.
It was moved by Member Kiewel, supported by Member Kelly, to approve Kelley Holobaugh as 7th grade volleyball coach @ $1,903 (BA, Step 8). Motion carried 5-0.
It was moved by Member Kiewel, supported by Member MacMartin, to approve Jenna Davis as assistant swim/dive coach @ $2,235 (BA, Step 0). Motion carried 5-0.
It was moved by Member Kiewel, supported by Member Ottusch, to approve the following Board policies, to be laid on the table for 30 days:
2421 - Career and Technical Education (Replacement) 5136 - Cell Phones and Electronic Communication Devices (Revised) 5460 - Graduation Requirements (Revised) 5540 - Interrogation of Students (Revised) 7250 - Commemoration and Naming of School Facilities (Revised) 7440 - Security and Video Surveillance (Revised) 9211 - District Support Organizations (Replacement)
Motion carried 5-0.
Upcoming Dates: December 19, 2007 – Last RMS home boys’ basketball game & family night at Roma’s Restaurant December 21, 2007 – Christmas Concert at BHS, 2:00 p.m. December 24, 25, 26 & 31, 2007 & January 1, 2008 - Administration Office closed January 7, 2008 - School Resumes January 12, 2008 – Board Retreat – 8 a.m.- Noon @ Bridgman Public Library January 14, 2008 Work Session - 7:00 p.m. @ BHS Media Center
Adjournment: It was moved by Member Ottusch, supported by Member MacMartin, to adjourn. Motion carried 5-0 and the meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
